Future Chester: the smart creative city?

What sort of city does Chester need to be to thrive in the mid-21st century – smart, creative, sustainable?

The partnership of Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWaC), the One City Plan (OCP) Making Group and think-and-do tank, Chester Great and Small (GAS), has officially launched a residential development handbook: ‘Living over the Rows’ which can be viewed on the recently launched OCP website https://www.chesteronecityplan.co.uk/resources

A panel discussion exploring what Chester need to thrive in the future will take place this Saturday (6th July) as pasty of the inaugural Festival of Ideas.

This discussion, organised by Destination Chester and Chester Great & Small (GAS), will explore what sits behind the fashionable buzzwords and consider how we can capitalise on all that is good here, learn from best practice around the world, and create a distinctive imaginative place where people will want to live, do business and enjoy their free time. Champion of the creative city, Bense Burnett, smart city expert, Dr. Andy Lyon and Destination Chester chair, Colin Potts, will have their say and will welcome yours.

Taking place at Chester Town Hall, Future Chester is one of the nearly 100 events that make up the Festival of Ideas- a free festival organized by the University of Chester and partners from 4-7 July. Speakers will share insights on a range of topics, with activities such as discussion panels, theatre, pop-up exhibitions, interactive activities, music, readings, guided walks and more to discover. Offering celebratory, entertaining, informative and inspiring events, in and around the city, the Festival looks to bring people – as well as the past, present and future together.
